Your measurements

A guide to getting them right — and why a professional tailor is required.

Professional tailor required — no exceptions
We require that all measurements be taken by a professional tailor or seamstress, not self-measured. This is not a preference — it is a firm requirement. Experience has shown us that self-taken measurements, even when carefully done, frequently contain errors that affect the fit of the finished dress. A trained eye and a proper fitting tape make the difference. Please find a local tailor before submitting your measurements.

After your order is confirmed and payment received, we will send you our full measurement guide. Your tailor will take all required measurements and you will send them to us before production begins.

We use these measurements to draft your personal pattern — not a standard size, but a pattern made to your body. Getting them right at this stage is the single most important factor in how the dress fits when it arrives.

How each measurement is taken

Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape horizontal. Arms relaxed at sides. Do not pull the tape tight — it should lie flat without compressing.

Tip: Measure while wearing the bra or undergarment you plan to wear with the dress.

Underbust

Measure directly under the bust, where a bra band sits. Keep the tape snug but not tight. This measurement helps our pattern-maker correctly shape the bodice.

Tip: Exhale normally before the tailor locks the tape in position.

Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of the natural waist — usually a few centimetres above the navel. Stand naturally; do not suck in. The tape should be firm, not tight.

Tip: If you are between sizes, always use your natural waist, not where you want it to be.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips and buttocks, approximately 18–22 cm below the natural waist. Keep the tape horizontal all the way around.

Tip: Stand with feet together and weight evenly distributed. Do not shift.

Hollow to floor

From the hollow at the base of the throat (between the collarbones) straight down to the floor. Take this measurement barefoot, standing tall on a flat surface.

Tip: This is the most critical measurement for skirt length. Take it twice.

Height

Stand against a flat wall without shoes, heels together, looking straight ahead. Mark the top of the head and measure from floor to mark.

Tip: If you will wear heels, tell us the heel height — we can adjust the hem length accordingly.
Only a
tailor
can do this

We have made dresses for brides on every continent. The single most common reason a dress needs adjustment on arrival is incorrect measurements taken by the bride herself. It is not a question of care or intelligence — measuring your own body accurately is genuinely difficult. The tape shifts. Posture changes. It is almost impossible to hold the tape correctly while also reading it.

A professional tailor takes these measurements dozens of times a week. They know how the tape should lie, when a bride is tensing, and how to account for posture. We require tailor-taken measurements for every order, without exception.

Most cities and towns have at least one local tailor or alteration shop. A measurement appointment typically takes 10–15 minutes and costs very little. It is the best investment you will make for the fit of your dress.

Before your
tailor appointment

Bring your wedding underwear. Wear the bra, shapewear, or undergarment you intend to wear on the day. This changes the measurements.

Know your heel height. If you're wearing heels, tell the tailor and tell us. We'll adjust the skirt length accordingly.

Don't measure if you're planning to lose weight. Have your measurements taken when your body is at the weight it will be on your wedding day, or close to it.

Stand naturally. No sucking in, no slouching. The dress will be made for how you actually stand, not how you pose.

Send measurements in centimetres. We work in cm. If your tailor uses inches, convert before sending — or ask us and we'll convert for you.
